Neither rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night, not even a heat wave will detour the adventure… 🙂

It Is Down The Path Least Traveled I Shall Go..

It is down the path least traveled I shall go
To a rainbow filled horizon I venture,
To seek, to learn, know peace, to enjoy life
A path filled with wonderful adventure.

A place where one is accepted as who they are
A spirit kindled to life, when mortal born,
A being coming from the depths within
And not subject to ridicule and scorn.

A place where I know freedom of thought and being
I am what I am, don’t you see,
Neither this one, neither that one, but all the above
In a mortal world, a free spirit, that’s me.

I do not travel the path alone, you see
There are memories and spirits to behold,
Those that share… the joy and sadness
As I gather more memories, down that least traveled road.

So how long will my journey be, one would ask
Will I see the end of the path…ever?
The answer, I believe, lies on the horizon
Somewhere past… the 12th of Never….

So I shall bring my ramblings to an end
For there is one fact that I do know,
To reach the horizon, the 12th of Never
It’s down the path least traveled I must go!

Hello Diary,

It is a Saturday morning, the beginning of another “hot” day, possible storms tomorrow… thought I would share some thoughts before getting ready to do battle with the heat wave…and speaking of the weather, there were a few that had some inquiries about my weather observations so will share some technology with you (Wait, where is everyone going!.. 🙂 ).. 🙂

In April of the year of 2001, I met a member of the National Weather Service, Billy Ousley, and after a discussion and with a handshake, I agreed to become a volunteer observer for the weather service (C.O.O.P/S.W.O.P) and thus began my journey… the weather service furnished a rain gauge…

rain guage

The other 14 weather instruments (plus computers, materials, etc) are mine, purchased or made.. one is the hailboard/snowboard…

hailboard

The hailboard is a piece of polyurethane foam covered in cooking foil and the hail will leave a crater in the foil and I can measure, in the winter I use the board to measure snow… another is the evaporation pan (to simulate the evaporation of ground, lakes, etc)…

evap pan

Another is the Evapotranspiration gauge which simulates the evaporation of plants..

e.t.guage a

I also have an assortment of gauges to measure soil temperature and frost at different depths…

gauges

The data from these gauges must be taken outdoors… the one exception is this remote sensor..

sending unit

Which transmits data to these instruments…

weather instruments

Sooooooooo, since 2001, every morning ( the single exception being severe weather) between 4:00 and 4:30 AM I put my little recorder/player in the pouch with the little flashlight..

recorder player

Hang the pouch around my neck and venture outdoors to read the instruments… when that is accomplished, I return indoors, sit down and temporarily put the data in my little 7 inch tablet..

7 inch tablet

I will also use my little “boogie boards” (they remind me of a chalk board)…

boogie boards 1

And then, by typing, by 6:00 AM I will then enter the data on the weather service’s website “WXCODER”

wxcoder

I will then enter the data, by typing, in Publisher…

publisher

And by 6:00 AM that will be sent to the Significant Weather website in Lincoln, Illinois… and finally I will send the data to the MET Office weather service in the UK..

And once that is accomplished , I will finish any recording needed, clear the instruments and prepare to repeat the process the next morning.. 🙂

Soooooooooo, by helping the weather services, perhaps it will help them help others… “You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. After all, what’s a life, anyway? We’re born, we live a little while, we die. By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Goodness knows anyone’s life can stand a little of that. (E.B. White, Charlotte’s Web)

And speaking of the weather, I had better close and prepare for the afternoon heat..set some water out for the backyard friends….have the Kindle, cool beverages (adult and otherwise) at the ready for me… maybe write a poem or two…. but I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise… 🙂

It is a Wednesday and I browsed the news, so much hate, anger and ridicule… not so here on the path for love overcomes all and will not be denied… not only in deeds but words… 🙂

A Kipling I know I’m not, dear one
I know that from the start,
No eloquent words here, my love
Just words of love, from the heart.

Nothing cute or fancy,
No false charmers words are there here,
But words of love for you
From my heart, my very being, my dear.

Couldn’t find the words….search sprit and mind
Hoping those precious words would appear
Then came wonderful, precious moment
For there, in my heart they were, my dear…

Now that I have the words
What’s this ole country boy to do,
How will these arthritic hands, my love
Say those precious words to you.

It will have to be done right, you know
And I know I will find a way,
To say how much I Love You more
With every heartbeat, each and every day.

There will be no falsehoods or lies for you, dear one
No meaningless empty words, cute or clever,
For I would rather you love me for just one day
Than to hate this ole country boy forever.
( Larry”Dutch” Woller )

Listen to your heart, be yourself, who you are from within and pay no heed to others, for being you, as you are, you’re unforgettable… 🙂

Hello Diary,

Some storms on the horizon and not just the world society… 🙂 taking a few moments to share some thoughts, no hate, anger, fear or ridicule here, only love… flowers are about love and will share some from the gardens along with some thoughts I had penned in history’s past…

A garden bouquet for you, my love
Each bloom has been chosen in hopes to convey
Thoughts of happiness and joy
With my message of love this day.

Daylilies…“ Love is a beautiful journey, where every step is a destination and every moment an eternity” (Apoorve Duby)

water garden 1

With a red Carnation,
To show how my heart aches for you,
Posies of Forget-Me-Nots,
To show my love is true.

Honeysuckle..“Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.” (Roy T. Bennett )

honeysuckle

And fragrant Freesias,
Embracing trust we share
With Lilies of the Valley,
Returning happiness and care.

Peonies..“Just because you feel someone does not love you as much as they should, does not mean they don’t give you all the love they have”..

peonies

Daisies to show,
My love is loyal – undivided,
As the Phlox whispers softly,
Our spirits are united.

Rose..“You don’t love the person you can live with, you love the person you cannot live without”…

rose, heirloom climber

And I’ve added Primrose,
To remind you again
That I can’t live without you,
And with you I’ll remain.

Hibiscus..“True love doesn’t happen right away; it’s an ever-growing process. It develops after you’ve gone through many ups and downs, when you’ve suffered together, cried together, laughed together, loved together.” (Ricardo Montalban)

hibiscus

And all about this bouquet,
Are sprigs of Baby’s Breath, sown
So delicately displayed
With a message of their own.

Water lily…“While you’re busy looking for the perfect person, you’ll probably miss the imperfect person who could make you perfectly happy” (Author Unknown)..

white lily

So with this bouquet, my love
I shall eternally bestow
A heartfelt message of love,
Even these blooms seem to know.
(Larry “Dutch’ Woller)

“Love knows no bounds or time, love is the spirit of the heart, love is the life support of hope, love is the force behind compassion, love is the foundation for true friendships, relationships….without love, life is barren and cold and has no meaning”…. (Larry “Dutch” Woller)

“Portrait of a Friend”

I can’t give solutions to all of life’s problems, doubts,
or fears. But I can listen to you, and together we will
search for answers.

I can’t change your past with all it’s heartache and pain,
nor the future with its untold stories.
But I can be there now when you need me to care.

I can’t keep your feet from stumbling.
I can only offer my hand that you may grasp it and not fall.

Your joys, triumphs, successes, and happiness are not mine;
Yet I can share in your laughter.

Your decisions in life are not mine to make, nor to judge;
I can only support you, encourage you,
and help you when you ask.

I can’t prevent you from falling away from friendship,
from your values, from me.
I can only think of you, talk to you and wait for you.

I can’t give you boundaries which I have determined for you,
But I can give you the room to change, room to grow,
room to be yourself.

I can’t keep your heart from breaking and hurting,
But I can cry with you and help you pick up the pieces
and put them back in place.

I can’t tell you who you are or who you will be
I can only love you and be your friend
(Adam Clarke)

Better close for now.. have some dreams to follow while dealing with life’s challenges…. but I shall return one day with my fingers doing the walking and my heart doing the talking, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise… 🙂

Ignore the fears in your mind, be yourself, follow the love in your heart with a dream in your pocket.. for if you could see yourself the way I do you would realize how wonderful you truly are… 🙂

It is the 4th of July and as I quietly gaze upon the gardens..

water garden 1

I venture down memory lane thankful for living my life my way… 🙂

A time to contemplate the past
A time to give thanks…they say,
To relive treasured memories
Of each and every passing day.

Thanks for letting me feel love
Be it joy, or be it heartache,
To know someone’s love
A treasured feeling their love did make.

Thanks for letting me live life
To explore, to follow one’s dream,
To seek out and live every adventure
Not enough time in the day… it did seem.

Thanks for letting me meet friends
To share thoughts of love, hope..perhaps a tear,
And by going down the path together in friendship
Doing away with hate, anger….and fear.

Thanks for giving me the courage
To follow my own path…to be me,
To not follow someone else’s path
To live my own….. reality.

Thanks for giving me an open mind
As I venture down the path… allowing me,
To gaze upon life’s treasures, large and small
That many others do not see.

Thanks for giving me an open heart
Able to love, understand and forgive,
And when I grow too old to dream
A place where my memories will live.

Yes, I have much to be thankful for
And every day the list gets longer… you see,
As I venture down the path least traveled
Searching for what destiny… has waiting for me.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, those were the days…

Hello Diary,

Yes, it is the 4th of July but no fireworks, parades or parties here, just me and a bottle of wine..

me, wine, beret

Quietly reminiscing and browsing memories, and also contemplating the future….

I was not a king or president,
No powers did I hold,
I wasn’t a preacher or a pope,
No sermon for the fold.

So tell me , fate
You hold the key,
What is my destiny
Suppose to be?

I helped construct the IMPE building Champaign, Illinois during my years on construction..

IMPE building

Can no longer build cities
The back is tired and sore,
I was a soldier once
No longer have the heart for war.

Vietnam, 12th Marine Regiment 1965-1966..

I’ve tilled the soil as a farmer
Fed the world is what they say,
But I see the faces of hunger
Still this very day.

This stalk of corn came from one of our fields, I am standing between my Dad and sister…

cornstalk

I’ve donated time and money
Ask for nothing in return,
I see nothing has changed
Will they ever learn?

I am a sustaining donor to the Foodbank..

foodbank 2

I’ve tilled the fields and went to war
Built cities and bridges and much more,
Has my destiny run it’s course
Fate, is there any more?

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” (Abraham Lincoln )

Well, I had better close for now…have quiet day of celebrating the freedom of living life.. …“Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain… To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices – today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.” (Kevyn Aucoin).. but I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise…. 🙂

Yes, I may have to make and small adjustment from time to time, but I follow my dreams with a open mind and led by the heart.. Diary, never let go of your dreams “Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird, that cannot fly.” (Langston Hughes) and should doubt enter your mind remember “The only thing that stands between you and your dream is the will to try and the belief that it is actually possible.” – (Joel Brown)….

It were a quiet Thursday morning I woke up to…

a quiet morning

A Quiet Morning…

A quiet morning to wake up to
Sitting, gazing out, with a spot of tea,
Contemplating my tomorrows
Wondering, what will the future be.

A quiet morning, a open mind
Thinking about the path, its mysteries many fold,
Each to explore and treasure
Soon a treasured memory to behold.

A quiet morning, a open heart
Another day to learn and explore about me.
It is my life.. only get one chance
Will have to do it my way.. don’t you see.

A quiet morning, being different
Reminding me of words from a song,
Where do I fit in, one asks
One wonders, where do I belong.

A quiet morning, on the path
At the end of it, on the horizon, a lovely rainbow,
It is there my answers lie… the truth is known
Until then, only Fate will know.

A quiet morning, spirit and mind at the ready
To seek the rainbow… perhaps around the next bend,
Once found, I’ll have my answers, you see
And that will be the beginning, not the end.

Hello Diary,

Have been a busy week, dealing with the weather while following dreams, chores, working on projects and preparing for the coming heat wave starting tomorrow, Friday, through the weekend… but, will not raise the “white flag” “If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can’t, you’re right” (Mary Kay Ash) ….. 🙂

me with floppy hat

Flowerdy floppy hat, check!… working glasses, check!… working gloves, check!.. Banana
Boat sunscreen, check!.. sunshine, check!.. HI HO HI HO it’s out to the gardens we go!.. 🙂

Weeder’s Thoughts…..

I have raked the soil and planted the seeds
Now I’ve joined the army that fights the weeds.
For me no flashing saber and sword,
To battle the swiftly marching horde;

With a valiant heart I fight the foe,
My only weapon a trusty hoe.
No martial music to swing me along,
I march to the robin redbreast song.

No stirring anthem of bugle and drum
But the cricket’s chirp and the honey bee’s hum.
No anti-aircraft or siren yell
But there’s Trumpet-creeper and Lily-bell.

With a loving heart and a sturdy hand,
I defend the borders of flower-land;
While high over Larkspur and Leopardsbane,
A butterfly pilots his tiny plane;

But I shall not fear his skillful hand,
My enemy charges only by land.
Would those who lead nations in war and hate
But lay down their guns at some garden gate,
There, bury- their bombs and their bloody deeds,
And join the grand army that’s fighting the weeds.
(Alma B. Eymann )

Diary, the last time I visited I posted some photos of a spider web taken recently.. here are two photos I took last year of spider webs… these are not, repeat NOT, Halloween decorations.. 🙂 .. The first is a web from house to auto… roughly measuring 6 feet (1.8m) in diameter..

Well, I had better close for now… finish up a few things and then ready for the heat, not to mention dreams, rainbows and whatever else lies around the next bend on the path… but I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise….

Until we meet again;

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you
In the palm of his hand..
(Irish Saying)

Goodnight, goodnight, until we meet again
Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehn ’til then
And though it’s always sweet sorrow to part
You know you’ll always remain in my heart
Goodnight, sleep tight, and pleasant dreams to you
Here’s a wish and a prayer that every dream comes true
And now ’til we meet again
Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehn

This weekend is Father’s Day weekend and wonder how many father’s have found themselves in this situation… 🙂

On our little girls third birthday,
She got a sandbox, In the backyard to play.
Sand was everywhere as she play and she laughed.
I fussed at her, For it killed all the grass.

Chorus; It’ll come back, It’ll come back
Daddy don’t be mad, God and the rain will bring it back.

When our little girl, Just turned ten,
She got a bike to ride with all her friends.
She skinned both her knees, as she played and she laughed.
I fussed at her. For it killed all the grass.

Chorus;

When our little girl, Turned seventeen.
We built her a pool, In the backyard that spring.
All her friends came and they swam and they splashed.
I fussed at her, For it killed all the grass.

Chorus;

My wife and I sit on the porch alone.
As I look out across at my beautiful lawn
The house is quiet, There’s no children at play.
And I say to my wife.
“Honey If you’ll listen real close, You can still hear her say…”

Chorus;
Hello Diary,

It is a Friday, so far a pleasant day but there are storms again on the horizon for the next few days… taking time from preparing for the future to leave a few thoughts (may not be able to get online much this weekend)… sitting here with a spot of tea with Father’s Day on the horizon and thinking about all the children.. as with the way of all creatures, at some point in time they leave the nest… :

Unfortunately, for reasons us mere mortals cannot comprehend, some leave the nest far too soon…
The little toy dog is covered with dust,
But sturdy and stanch he stands;
And the little toy soldier is red with rust,
And his musket molds in his hands.
Time was when the little toy dog was new
And the soldier was passing fair,
And that was the time when our Little Boy Blue
Kissed them and put them there.

“Now, don’t you go till I come,” he said,
“And don’t you make any noise!”
So toddling off to his trundle-bed
He dreamed of the pretty toys.
And as he was dreaming, an angels song
Awakened our Little Boy Blue,–
Oh, the years are many, the years are long,
But the little toy friends are true.

Ay, faithful to Little Boy Blue they stand,
Each in the same old place,
Awaiting the touch of a little hand,
The smile of a little face.
And they wonder, as waiting these long years through,
In the dust of that little chair,
What has become of our Little Boy Blue
Since he kissed them and put them there.
(Eugene Field)

And at some point in time some grow their wings and fly away to follow their destiny..

Little folks are people too
Very much like me and you
The little things they say and do
They kinda make your day
Foolishness and common sense
Through the eyes of innocence
Skip a rope or jump a fence
Gettin’ in the way

Daddy, why are you so tall?
Daddy, why am I so small?
Daddy, who makes snowflakes fall?
Could it be the Lord?
Chasing puppies, climbin’ trees
Bumping heads and skinnin’ knees
It’s not very hard to see
That kids are God’s reward

Little folks get down and out
The girls will cry and boys will pout
Before you know what it’s about
They’re smiling once again
Colored kites on summer breeze
Jingle Bells and Christmas trees
Too soon they’re only memories
Do you remember when?

Daddy, what makes eagles fly?
What makes clouds float in the sky?
And Daddy, if I really try
Will I grow up someday?

But little folks slip through our hands
Like so many grains of sand
You’d best enjoy them while you can
So soon they fly away…

And there are some that do not have a father (or mother) and as a sustaining guardian of the Cunningham Children’s home, hopefully I can give them some hope that they will realize their dreams on this Father’ Day (and every day).. “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul – and sings the tunes without the words – and never stops at all.” Emily Dickinson

cunnigham

Well, I had better close for now.. Have my own dreams to follow…“All one can do is know happiness by following ones dreams, being led by one’s heart, and it is up to the rest of the world to accept or not” but I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise…

In spite of the storms, me and the rest of the children (along with the poets, dreamers and lovers) will be looking for that rainbow connection and the path to our destiny… 🙂

Don’t let the noise of other’s opinion drown your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary” Steve Jobs

How are we so “different”?
If “different” is just a thing.
If we all have certain features,
What does “different” bring?

People filled with hatred,
Can’t possibly see,
That there’s not really “differences”
Between you and me.

Looks can’t show “difference”,
If they’re just there to be seen.
If you don’t look like someone else,
Why are they so mean?

If being “different” is what is wrong,
I’d rather not be right.
And I’d want to finish living,
Doing the “different” fight.
(Vincen Tabatha)

Well, I had better close, but the dance is far from over as there will be another time.. for now will have some rainbows to explore and some dreams to contemplate.. but I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise… 🙂

It is a pleasant Tuesday here on the path but storms on the horizon for tomorrow.. Journey of Self Discovery…

One morning in history’s past I woke up, and like Kevyn Aucoin, I chose life.. “Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain… To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices – today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.” Kevyn Aucoin

And I followed a path suggested by Robert Frost…

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost

“Life is complicated and not contained to a few ideologies or beliefs, therefore in order to better understand the universe, and me, I need to leave safe harbor, with open mind, and explore all of the universe, not just parts of it..…” (Larry “Dutch” Woller)

Hello Diary,

It is a Tuesday afternoon, and inbetween storms, haven’t been online much but have not been deterred.. “I’m not afraid of storms, for I’m learning how to sail my ship.” ( Louisa May Alcott), thought I would take time to share a few thoughts before “battening down the hatches” for the evening… 🙂

Earlier today before the first round of storms arrived, I saw a squirrel taking a break (on top of the fence) after spending a few hours acting like a rebellious knucklehead while chasing his dreams….

No doubt having the same mindset as Hunter Thompson. “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming; “Wow! What a ride!” (Hunter S. Thompson).. 🙂

Also saw a young dove (the little gray furry ball near the stick) who had apparently decided to leave the safety of the nest and follow it’s dreams “Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or it is nothing.” (Helen Keller)…

No doubt resting a bit when I took the picture but were gone a short time later, I wish the bird a safe journey while following its dreams.. Also received some good news today that I were able to help others realize their dreams…

“I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” (Stephen Grellet )

Well, I had better close… prepare for the next weather adventure, while following my dreams and contemplating what destiny may have instore for me… but I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise… 🙂

Remember, Diary, all one can do is know happiness by following ones dreams, being led by one’s heart, and it is up to the rest of the world to accept or not… so don’t give up the fight for those dreams, as Mark Twain said “It is not the size of the dog in a fight that matters, it is the size of the fight in the dog”.. (Mark Twain)

So keeping in mind the words by Langston Hughes “Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird, that cannot fly.” (Langston Hughes ).. I believe I will take my cup of tea and find me a star… 🙂
