Water colors, plastic spoons and rainbows on the path least traveled….

Dear Diary Page 90…

Hello Diary..

Day is moving right along, going well so far.. hot and humid outdoors and perhaps some storms later…just popping in briefly to answer the question about the plastic spoons…after separating the handle from the rest of the spoon, gathered up my supplies left over from the flea market days…got some primer paint, paint for base coat and a sealer, also the water colors….

watercolors

Normally I would have use acrylics but didn’t have any.. I put a coat of primer on for adhesion…

plastic spoon primer

Allowing plenty of time for drying with the heat and humidity, I then applied the finish coat, a sky blue….

Once that was dry, got out the watercolors and a varied assortment of over used brushes and started on the rainbow….

rainbowon spoon

Once dry added a few abstract clouds, did some abstract painting on the back and when that was dry, added a couple of links of broken necklace and a hook….

hook and necklace

And after all of that, what does one have, one would ask?…. Rainbow earrings!!!.. 😀

Now I won’t have to go very far to find a rainbow, will have my rainbow connection with me whenever I wear them….

Sing it Kermie!!…

Summertime, veggies and plastic spoons on the path least traveled…

Dear Diary Page 89…

Hello again Diary,

Thought I would pop in and leave some thoughts, a busy week coming up if the weather cools off.. have some errands to run and meetings perhaps, so will be busy busy busy and even more so in the coming days afterwards.. may be quite some time before I return online here..

Have been having a cycle of hot to cool weather and it is hot and humid now..been busy keeping the bird baths filled ( have five plus the one on a recycling pump) and around 4 PM it gets quite crowded.. here is a dove being a early bird, getting a bath before the crowd shows and it is standing room only… 😀

Dove on birdbath

As I said, suppose to be a brief cool down for three or four days next week, taking my time, will start to spread some mulch…

mulch

Bree does not have a allergy to this mulch and got it at a good price, delivered.. this on again, off again weather has had a impact on my potatoes… here is one container that finished a bit early..

potato 1

They were a experiment anyway, to see if I could grow them in containers or beds, and I can.. Pulled this batch and got about 2 pounds, the smallest about the size of a ping pong ball, the larger one, a baseball…

potato 2

Believe the other may have bigger potatoes, we’ll see… the rest of the garden is doing ok at the moment, still early but growing.. have had to protect the veggies from the squirrels this year, stopping short of razor wire… 😀

Cucumbers, onions and volunteer tomato plants (curious as to what they will produce)…

cuc, onons, tomatos

Tomatoes, rattail radish, etc…

tomato, radish

Weather permitting, the tomatoes should get around 5 feet tall and hopefully produce as well..and while out and about taking pictures of gardens, much to the delight of the frogs, insects, birds and other backyard critters, the water garden is doing Ok also…

pond area

And speaking of tomatoes, got these out of the freezer from last year..I freeze the small ones, mainly the Roma’s..

tomato

Once thawed they are much like stewed tomatoes, still have the taste, the skin comes off easy.. cannot slice them, of course, but are good in soups, stews or salsa… or eaten as is, like I will do with Sunday’s dinner, with a dash of sweet basil…

Also picked my first batch of rat-tail radish.. looks like a green bean but has the flavor of a radish, does well with the heat outdoors and grows in abundance…the plant you seen in the picture with the tomatoes has 80 on it… 😀

rattail radish

So, that is it for today and like I said, may be some time before I return (is that cheering I hear???? 🙂 ).. But I may pop in ever so briefly in the future to let you know what I did with these two plastic spoons.. 😀

plasstic spoon 1

That being said, will close now, leave some thoughts for the day and perhaps a song or two by Yanni and Enya…and venture on down the path least traveled, Bree and I, living life our way and chasing rainbows… don’t know when I shall return, but return I will, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise…

Hot, Humid and Father’s Day on the path least traveled…

Dear Diary Page 88…

Hello Diary,

Day most done, starting to warm up again so I cleaned up and decided to do a quick blog.. Looked at the calendar and saw that tomorrow, Sunday, was Father’s day, so thought I would share a few thoughts and a memory or two…

One cannot be father unless one has a pair like this to draw to…. 😀

e & k

My daughter Kim and my son Eric…I had made a oath that they would never be known as my kids ..no one would say ”there is Larry Woller’s kids”.. they would say there is Eric or Kim.. I were their father to be sure and there all the way but would let them pursue their destiny their way, being individuals, free spirits and all that they accomplished and would accomplish, they would have the dignity and pride of doing it as Kim and Eric, not as my kids, they would never live under my shadow…I would pay the bills and make an occasional venture to the emergency room, falling off of horses, getting skinned up playing, seeing how far they could go.. 😀

Memories are numerous, remember about Christmas time and their attempts to decorate the tree…

e & k 2

Of course they were small and Kim would put her ornaments where Eric did so all the ornaments they put up were bunched up in one small space near the bottom.. But, again, I did not say a word but knew that Santa would pop in after they went to bed and rearrange things a bit.. 😀

And so, there were years of making memories, far too many to post here, some with joy, one or two with a touch of sadness and then one morning one realizes that they have grown up to the point of getting ready to “leave the nest and fly away”..

kim

eric

To follow their dreams, to search for their destiny.. They were not born with a silver spoon in their mouth, sometimes the going got a bit tough, but they never quit, never gave up…

Kim has her work and over the years, with scooping a lot of manure, has worked her way up in the world of equestrian..her dream..

k jumping

I remember the day the horse made the jump and Kim didn’t… 😀

And Eric has his dream and after some time in the Marine Corp..

e marines

his work and dream has become one…

e painting

So they are far away from the nest, chasing their dreams as it should be, some days are diamonds and some days are stones, and there will be more of them before they find their destiny, I’m afraid.. but they have been doing a wonderful job….

kim family

eric family

Of being Kim and Eric…I need to mention my other two kids, Karlen (Kim’s husband) and Patty (Eric’s wife)… and a father cannot be more proud of something then that… 🙂

Better close now, Diary, bring the day to an end on the path least traveled.. Hot and humid next couple of days, Bree and I will be making plans for the rest of the week when it cools down some while taking it easy while it is hot and humid, have indoor projects to do.. you see, Bree and I are chasing our dreams also.. 😀 not sure when we will return, but return we will, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise..

Thought I would again post the song “Little Folks” by Charlie Daniels for any dads out there..moms too.. 🙂

Storms, a free spirit named Bree and a possum named Atilla, never a dull momemt on the path least traveled…

SWOP: Severe Weather Possible Tuesday and Wednesday
SWOP
Severe thunderstorms will likely develop from eastern Kansas northeastward into central Iowa during the late afternoon and evening of Tuesday, June 14th. The atmosphere across this area will become highly unstable and moderately sheared, leading to the threat of rotating supercells. These storms will then congeal into a broken line as they push eastward across the Mississippi River Tuesday night. The airmass further east into Illinois will be considerably more stable and much less sheared, so the storms will likely weaken with eastward extent. Even still, some of the storms may produce gusty winds and small hail as they track through central Illinois after midnight.

Here is the current DAY 2 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK for Tuesday, June 14th:

sev stms 1

A few storms may linger across east-central Illinois through early Wednesday morning before sweeping eastward into Indiana. After that, the question becomes whether or not additional storms will fire Wednesday afternoon as a cold front passes through the region. The latest models agree that convective initiation will likely be further east than previously thought and may focus more along the remaining outflow boundary rather than the actual cold front. As such, the most likely location for potential severe weather Wednesday will be along and east of the I-57 corridor. Any storms that develop Wednesday afternoon and evening will be capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts.

Here is the current DAY 3 Convective Outlook for Wednesday, June 15th:

sev stms 2

While all of central Illinois is currently under the Day 3 SLIGHT RISK area, I think this may be trimmed from the west. For the latest updates from the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), please monitor: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/

And after saying my piece on pain, suffering and death caused by mortals, and leaving a few words about storms, shall leave and get on with life with little Bree…will be some time before I return again..but return I shall, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise… after all, as Yanni agrees, you only live once… 😀

What do pain, suffering and death have in common?..guns and religion

Dear Diary Page 87….

Hello Diary…
Did not expect to return this soon, but events over the weekend had prompted me to post some words before starting the day and week.. this, of course, is related to the shooting in Orlando…becoming typical these days in America, a great deal of finger pointing and blaming, closed minds already passing judgement… a sign of weakness, not greatness… so far it seems it is just a mortal with a heart filled with hate and had access to a weapon created and designed for “mass destruction”, nothing else….

So, who filled Omar Mateen’s heart with hate, were it Islam or were it mortals, American Christians, like the following;

From the Christian Post…
Pastor Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Ariz., a 31-year-old electrician, father of seven and pastor from Tempe, Ariz., who once wished President Barack Obama would die of brain cancer like Ted Kennedy, came under fire from Irish citizens last week after he declared that the Bible says “gays should be executed” and he supports the teaching.

MooreDaily.com, ran a story featuring Facebook conversations from a Republican candidate for the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Scott Esk, who is running in Oklahoma’s 91st District, made a number of posts last summer critical of homosexuality and stating that “we would be totally in the right” to execute gays by stoning them. He stated during the Facebook conversation that while he is a libertarian, and stoning gays to death is kind of against those principles, he feels that it would morally be the right thing to do by God, and that it is a shame that this nation ignores things that are worthy of death.

Kevin P. Swanson, a minister in Colorado and host of the Generations Radio Show said; “YES! Leviticus 20:13 calls for the death penalty for homosexuals. YES! Romans Chapter 1, Verse 32, the Apostle Paul does say that homosexuals are worthy of death. His words, not mine! And I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And I am not ashamed of the truth of the word of God. And I am willing to go to jail for standing on the truth of the word of God.” To be sure, he did say that “civil leaders” should not apply the death penalty today, not until the culture has changed and gays have been put on notice that they must repent or be put to death

Matt McLaughlin A lawyer in California has submitted a ballot initiative called “The Sodomite Suppression Act” He said “Seeing that it is better that offenders should die rather than that all of us should be killed by God’s just wrath against us for the folly of tolerating-wickedness in our midst, the People of California wisely command, in the fear of God, that any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification be put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method.”

Mississippi, GOP state Rep. Andy Gipson posted a message on his Facebook page which calls for putting gays and lesbians to death. He posted “ “Been a lot of press on Obama’s opinion on “homosexual marriage.” The only opinion that counts is God’s: see Romans 1:26-28 and Leviticus 20:13. Anyway you slice it, it is sin. Not to mention horrific social policy. According to Leviticus 20:13, “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

The above mortals are just an example of the thousands of Americans who share the same ideology…both Islam and Christian ideologies created in the minds of disgruntled sheep herders dissatisfied with life hundreds of years ago and used today to justify inflicting pain, suffering and even death to creatures who do not adhere or abide to their thinking or ideology…

Ask me again why I am not religious.. I do believe that unless mortal man becomes civilized it will be religion, not some big rock from outer space, that will ultimately destroy mankind…

Will have to go now, get on with life..as I always do at the end of my blog is post a video or two and today I will post one for those victims of the Orlando shooting (as well as others) who, while exercising their right to pursue life, liberty and happiness, became victim to an act committed by a mortal in the name of some god… the song is from the movie Gladiator and is called “Now We Are Free”..

HI HO HI HO it is on down the path least traveled Bree and I go.. no assault rifle and no religion so with the exception of an occasional appearance by a certain little possum, Attila, mostly peaceful with all creatures pursing life, liberty and happiness…will be back again some day, not sure when, not sure where… Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise..

And, of course, Bree and I will be doing it…

Attila, change and hot weather on the path least traveled…

Dear Diary Page 86….

Hello Diary…

I’m baaaaaaaaaaaack…. briefly… a great deal of living to do.. 😀 anyway, Diary, it is too hot outdoors to be doing much in the way of activities and a incident occurred this morning, so thought I would do a quick blog to share the incident and some thoughts, letting you know I was still around…

For the incident… Half of the outdoor deck is closed in and I have a doggie door from the house to the closed in part (I shut it every night when going to bed)

doggie door house to deck

And a doggie door from the enclosed part to the outdoors (which I leave open all the time unless I wish to keep Bree out of the yard for some reason)…

doggie door deck to outdoors

I have these doggie doors so I do not have to open doors all the time, especially in the winter time.. and do you remember in blogs past I had mentioned an late night encounter between Bree and a young possum, the village trouble maker, earlier?.. I named it Attila (after Attila, the Hun)… Well, this morning I got up routinely around 3 AM to prepare to gather weather data to turn in (by 6 AM) and start the day… as I started to venture out, seen that Bree was up and needing to go out so open the doggie door and turn to continue… Bree no sooner went through the door when she started barking and snarling and having a fit!!..this was about 3:30 AM (6-10-2016)..

I went to the patio door, opened it to see what all the fuss were about and when I looked towards the other doggie door, I saw some items on the floor, knocked off the shelves..

debris

Perplexed as to how the items got there, I started to look around and looked up and there was Attila (on top of the boat), INSIDE!!!

Attila inside

Another view with me looking in from the outside…

attila form the outside

Bree had “treed” a possum, INSIDE, around 3 in the morning!!.. apparently curiosity overcame the little possum and she discovered that she could go through the doggie door .. I finally got Bree under control and inside the house, and got my heavy duty leather gloves…

leather gloves

And after a struggle, Bree was barking and the more Bree barked, the more determined Attila was to stay on high ground but after some time and gentle persuasion I was able to get her loose and then took her out into the yard and let go and the last we seen of her was her disappearing in the dark… no blows, no foul…. I wish those two would have their confrontations in the daytime!!! never a dull moment on the path least traveled.. 😀

Going to be hot today and next few days, Bree is handling it quite well, resting after doing guard duty this morning…

bree and the heat

Have a fan going in the “office” and she is taking advantage of it….well, better scoot, life is calling on the path least traveled and going to see what it wants..but shall return one day, not sure when, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise….

Some thoughts about change..

“It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird; it would be jolly sight harder for it to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present, and you cannot go on indefinitely being just a ordinary, decent egg, we must be hatched or go bad.” C. S. Lewis

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past and present are certain to miss the future.” John F. Kennedy

It is change, continuing change, inevitable change, that is the dominant factor in society today. No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account not only the world as it is, but the world as it will be.” Issac Asimov

A gender-equal society would be one where the word “gender” does not exist, where everyone can be themselves.” Gloria Steinem

“Everyday on the path least traveled brings change, that change presents a challenge, mentally and physically, as to how to accept it and deal with it, generates an excitement about living a second of time and looking forward to what the next second of time brings, looking forward to life and enjoying it.” Larry “Dutch” Woller 6/9/2016

Yanni says there is a reason for rainbows..

The answer is written on the wind..
