Hello Diary,

Well, it is a Monday morning, the holiday continues… a bit cloudy and cold this morning but sun later perhaps… yesterday the sun were out with a bit of fog but pleasant though cool…

I expect there are those who are taking advantage of the pleasant weather to do errands and shopping.. had a relaxing weekend after a busy week, now preparing for the next year… taking a moment from the activities to share a few thoughts… the holiday is also about giving… had a surprise visit from a young couple who lives down the street.. do not know their last name or very little about them but they stopped in over the weekend and gave me a present… a cute small pail and a card.. “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Inside was a delicious party mix that they made themselves…

I were caught by surprise so I did not have a card, but I did have a 3 pound canned ham that I purchased a short time back for special occasion and that special occasion arrived… 🙂 I gave them the ham and apologized for not having a card…. while thinking of Santa and the reindeer, a short time back I posted a rare occurrence of a couple of reindeer in the neighborhood…

I am wondering now if they were Santa’s reindeer on a mission… Hmmmmmmmmmm.. 🙂 yes, love, dreams, hope, giving, all part of the holiday… but humor has a place in the holiday season also… I penned these thoughts…

The 4th of July Holiday May Be Easier..

It were a few days before Christmas
With a half decorated tree,
No one were stirring
Not even me…

Still in my pajamas
All snuggled in bed,
With visions of winning the lottery
Dancing in my head…

There were a loud noise
And I awoke with a start,
I shuffled to the windows
The curtains I did part.

Was it 9 tiny reindeer
With a jolly elf dressed in red?
Disappointment in the air
It were the garbage collector instead.

I ventured to the kitchen
For a spot of tea and some toast,
Opened the fridge to find
A turkey and dressing to roast.

Ventured to the room with the tree
The room warmed by the morning sun,
At a glance I realized with a frown
That there’s dusting to be done.

In the corner were the vacuum
Looking so forlorn,
It needs to be run
Some time before Christmas morn.

Presents needing paper, ribbons
Bows and all that matter,
I stand outside with rake in hand
A yard full of leaves to gather.

A present under the tree
Could it be my favorite toy?
Then a thought came to mind
I may be too tired to enjoy… sighhhhh

Mama’s Christmas Miracle… by Kathy J Parenteau

Mama told me a story a long, long time ago, not like any that I’d ever heard,
all about a little girl mama used to know, how I remember every word.
Seems like a lifetime ago, though I remember it so well.
It was a Christmas Eve I’ll never forget as far as I can tell.

We were sitting at the kitchen table, it was only my mother and me.
I was dreaming of Christmas morning and all the presents under the tree.
Dad wasn’t doing that well and money was scarce that year.
Mama found a way of telling me without me shedding one tear.

She told me a story of a little girl and a Christmas long ago,
who came from far away, a place where it rarely snowed.
Santa was just a dream to her, but she believed so much inside,
that Christmas was going to be special, so she knelt by her bed and she cried.

“Lord, let Santa remember me if not just this one time.
I promise I won’t ask for much, maybe a dolly I can call all mine.”
She closed her prayer and thanked the Lord for all that she received.
She knew that Santa would really come if only she believed.

She wrote a letter to Santa, unfamiliar to most girls and boys.
Though her list was long and full, on it there were no toys.
Only things we take for granted, like new shoes or underpants,
hair bows for her sisters and gloves to warm her brothers’ hands.

At the bottom of her list she asked, if it not be too much,
for a brand new baby doll she could hold and love and touch.
Then Christmas morning came and she looked beneath her tree,
Not a present to be found as far as she could see.

She didn’t give up hope as she heard a knocking sound.
When she opened up her door, a great big box she found.
She called out to her mother and dad, brothers and sisters too,
She said, “My prayers were answered, there’s something in here for all of you.”

Her daddy got brand new boots, her mother new underpants, her sisters got beautiful hair bows, her brothers warm gloves for their hands.
Buried deep beneath the box was a brand new baby doll and a note that said, “Merry Christmas, I love you one and all.”

I’ll never forget that story because much to my surprise,
I saw the true meaning of Christmas shining in my mother’s eyes.
For those of you who are wondering, as if you didn’t know,
The little girl in Mama’s story was my mother long ago.

It is a Tuesday morning, not been a pleasant past few days, cold and wintry… woke up to freezing fog yesterday morning…

The temperature were 17 degrees F and visibility of 300 feet… difficult to keep up the holiday spirit but no white flag flying here… 🙂 have some errands to do this morning, get supplies for the holiday for me and my backyard friends… more weather end of the week…

And speaking of the holiday spirit, seems there is a debate about Santa.. put the tree up the day before Christmas day, presents, food and football on Christmas day, tree down the day after Christmas.. Hmmmmmm, no holiday magic there… so sad… there is holiday magic and Santa here on the path least traveled… 🙂

Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.
No Santa Claus? Thank God he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.”

I wonder what is in that large package that Santa left for me under the tree…

Hello Diary,

A wintry Saturday morning here… were hoping for a mild holiday but appears that winter may be here to stay… 🙂 woke up Thursday morning with Ole Man Winter making his presence known…

Friday morning appeared to be a pleasant sunny day, from indoors…

But appearances can be deceiving as it were 9F degrees outside… the white on the trees is called hoarfrost, cause by freezing fog as it were foggy outdoors…but back indoors it were a balmy 67 degrees, no fog and a gentle breeze (created by ceiling fans)… just right to re-pot the poinsettia as I knew it would not survive in the pot it were currently in.. so I gathered up supplies….

And managed to put the little poinsettia in a comfy pot without damaging the plant…

So now will do our best to help the little plant.. Now, I am efficient at growing green beans and tomatoes but caring for indoor tropical plants is not my forte… 🙂 I have two Philodendron plants, one is live and the other is artificial, and there is a lively debate at the local pub as to which one I will kill first… 🙂 but press on we shall, for there are no white flags flying on the path least traveled… 🙂

And speaking of flowers, the holidays are about love, not about technology, and nothing is more loving than a holiday bouquet… 🙂

A Christmas Bouquet for you, my love
Each bloom has been chosen in hopes to convey,
To bring in the season of joy this year
With my message of love this day.

With a red Carnation,
To show how my heart aches for you,
Posies of Forget-Me-Nots

And the holidays are about the little folks, their minds and heart open, filled with wonder and dreams..society has not intruded yet… 🙂 I remember one Christmas past (no pc, smart phones, etc)….

The initial objective were to get all the gifts unwrapped as rapidly as possible, adding to the confusion as one gets to the point of trying to decide which gift to check out first… Kim with hands on hips, decisions, decisions… 🙂

“When one suddenly finds oneself in a swamp up to one’s armpits in alligators, it is difficult to remember the objective was to drain the swamp”..

There were another holiday when decorating the tree, Eric and Kim were not in school yet… gave them a few ornaments, about 10 each, to put where they wish to… they were not very tall and Kim followed Eric and they put all the ornaments in one small place.. could have covered all 20 with a small towel.. 🙂 but Santa’s helpers arrived during the night, decorating the rest of the tree, leaving the kids ornaments where they put them… it were the best tree ever… 🙂

Well, I had better close for now… venture on down the path, more memories to gather, dreams to follow, make sure I don’t get on Santa’s “have been bad” list… but I shall return one day, Diary, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise..

Yes, the holidays are about the little folks, and while they may be more attached to Mom (for obvious reasons) “ The love a mother has for her children is legendary, it is said a child is the mother’s heart outside her body.” , with a loving, open heart Dad can be part of the holiday spirit also…. “Life gives us brief moments with another, but sometimes in those brief moments we get memories that last a lifetime, So live that your memories will be part of your happiness.”

The little things they say and do
They kinda make your day

Foolishness and common sense
Through the eyes of innocence

Winds of Change…

I watched that heavy door begin to close,
all the while the winds above me rose.
The years whisper and whistle back into my ear,
the memories haunted by sorrows and fear.

With a new day it finally dawned on me,
the past needed locking and I had the key.
Leave it behind, leap and fly away free,
let the winds of change blow and carry me.

Feel them lifting my wings now able to soar,
up to an open sky and caged no more.
Flying so fast to where no hurt can find,
a place of peace now inhabits my mind.

This heart full of courage never ceases to beat,
knowing my history is not destined to repeat.
Clear paths now lead me to a new destination,

Hello Diary,

It is the middle of the week, a busy week with December bringing the year to a close so starting to prepare for the new year… sun is out at the moment but the morning started out with winter…

Winter is not officially here till December 21 but it is obvious that Ole Man Winter has his own calendar and it is not compatible with us mortals calendar… 🙂 with the snow and all, the neighbors were getting into the spirit of the season, managed to take a photo last evening…

It has been some time since I decorated outdoors, concentrate on indoors and try to refrain from using lights in a effort to conserve energy… the world observed the holidays long before Thomas Edison were born… 🙂
My daughter were passing through yesterday and stopped overnight because of the weather, continued her journey this morning… decided on a quick meal, so warmed up the pizza..

Using the microwave made a plate of broccoli and cheese…..

And again using the microwave, made bacon and cheese bagels….

While preparing the above food, I roasted some french fries in the toaster oven, the making of the entire meal took 20 minutes… and I had a spot of wine with my pizza… Well, Kim had briefly visited a store before arriving and she saved this little poinsettia…

It were going to be thrown away, in the garbage… why?.. because it were different, it were too small, it were not perfect.. so therefore did not fit in, nobody wanted the little plant… never raised a poinsettia before but will try.. Google it, right Diary?… 🙂

And speaking of perfection, at another site there were a brief discussion about finding the perfect person, and I sent a reply;

“While you’re busy looking for the perfect person, you’ll probably miss the imperfect person who could make you perfectly happy”.

The following were a reply to mine, a general statement I am sure, not directed to me personally… 🙂

‘The Perfect’ doesn’t exist.
To realize that, start with you.
How many times have you lied?
How many times have you given into your selfishness?
And still, with all your imperfections and blunders,
you search for that who is perfect.
You want to be put on a pedestal of glory,
while stripping down others of their shame.
You have to realize, you are as equally imperfect as the next person you criticize,
and that is never shameful.
~This I wrote today.

And the following is my reply to that reply….

I have a greater peace of mind by being straightforward and truthful about myself, with open heart and mind, knowing the outcome being uncertain, rather than to wake up tomorrow morning and have to deal with a falsehood I told yesterday. 🙂

I accept what life and destiny has provided, nothing more.. “I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw some things back.” 🙂

Yes, I do not stand in front of a mirror and start singing “How Great Thou Art”… 🙂

Perfection does not exist in nature nor the universe, therefore I do not waste my time looking for something that does not exist… 🙂

I dislike pedestals because they are unstable and I am leery of heights… if I want glory I would not be here on WordPress but on Twitter with Trump and the gang… 🙂

The only person I “strip” is me just prior to taking a bath… as for other peoples feelings, they are already aware of how they feel, I don’t waste my time constantly reminding them.. 🙂

I am a born again heathen with long hair, earrings and nails, independent, not into religion and venturing down the path least traveled, quoting Frank Sinatra; “doing it my way”… I know who I am… I do not consider myself knowledgeable enough about the next person to assume I can determine who they are, what they are, how they feel or what they believe… 🙂

I wrote this today and I will write it every day… 🙂

Well, it is a cloudy, dreary Friday outdoors..

But at least it is not snowing… 🙂 there is a possibility of severe thunderstorms tomorrow so thought I would take a break from the holiday activities and share a few thoughts before the weekend… ole Santa here on the path least traveled decided on having a stress free, quiet, relaxing Christmas day, so put the sleigh in high gear, hired more reindeer and got into action… got the cards ready to mail, some bearing gifts… 🙂

I wonder what Santa got for me this year… 🙂 I have been good for the most part… also got Christmas day dinner prepared and in the freezer…

No cooking, no clean up, just pop in the microwave, clever eh?.. 🙂 also spread a little holiday cheer among some charities in hopes of helping someone’s day a bit brighter…

Soooooooooo, Santa got deliveries made, a Christmas feast ready so the ole sleigh were put away for another year and the reindeer got the rest of the holiday off doing whatever it is that reindeer do… 🙂

I saw a mouse over the weekend and the incident brought a memory of when Bree were still here..

And Bree encountered a mouse while I were preparing a small turkey to put in the crock pot… I penned a few thoughts about the incident… 🙂

Including the Christmas mouse!

I was working on the turkey
When there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the kitchen
To see what was the matter.

I ventured to the living room
And there, to my surprise, I did see,
Standing nose to nose, paw to paw
Was the Christmas mouse and Bree.

With spatula in hand, ENOUGH, I yelled
With a voice loud and clear,
So that the Christmas mouse and Bree
Scattered, they did, in fear.

It was back to the kitchen and the turkey
No thoughts of sugar plums, dancing in my head,
But thoughts of a Thanksgiving TV dinner
Cooking in the microwave instead………

Hello Diary,

Well, it is a Tuesday morning, definitely a wintry morning…

Tues morning

Ole Man Winter is here with an attitude… 🙂 will putter around today, get holiday cards ready to be mailed as I spent the weekend sorting, etc… thought I would take a break in the activities and share a few thoughts… were feeding the outdoor creatures and the birds and a memory occurred about a abandoned baby pigeon that I found while I were living on the farm…

School were out for the summer and I were checking out the barnyard, etc making sure all were in order… I ventured to the corncrib and on the floor of the building I saw a baby pigeon… I obtained the picture from the internet..

It had fallen from the nest, abandoned and obviously would not survive on its own… I took it to the house and use a small box to build a nest at put the nest in the large entry way to the house.. I did not know what to feed it, regular seed would not work so I took a slice of white bread and soaked it in warm milk… it were difficult to feed the little bird at first but over time it fell in love with the bread and ate heartily… it grew up to be a adult pigeon looking much like the one in the photo, again I obtained a picture from the internet…

I named the pigeon Commander and turned him loose to be free… well, Commander stayed around the barnyard, using the cupola on top of the corncrib as his home… I would leave a slice of bread in a safe location in the crib and Commander would also eat with the chickens… the chickens would peck at his head while eating and in time Commander didn’t have a feather on his head… 🙂 one day Dad and I were working in his shop getting plow shears ready for cultivating, etc and Dad decided to venture to the house to get a sandwich…

Well, Commander was on the cupola keeping a watchful eye out when Dad came out of the house with sandwich in hand… Commander seen the white bread and swooped down on Dad like a jet fighter, landed on his shoulder, started flapping his wings and screeching and while Dad were trying to shoo him away Dad dropped his sandwich, Commander dropped to the ground, grabbed a slice of bread and took off like he was shot out of a cannon… now I know that Dad would not hurt Commander but if looks could kill… 🙂

For a few days after the incident, I would continue to take bread out to the corncrib but I noticed that the bread had not been touched, nor have I seen Commander around the barnyard, did not know what happened to him… about a week after the incident, our neighbor, Mr. Uden, came over to have Dad work on his plow shears… while watching us work on his shears he spoke and said “ the strangest thing happened today as I were getting the shears ready to bring over… I went into the house to get a sandwich and when I came outside I was attacked by a bald headed pigeon who stole part of my sandwich and took off!”… Dad started laughing and told Mr. Uden about his experience with a bald headed pigeon… 🙂

I guess Commander decided it were time to move on, leave safe harbor and explore his domain.. Every once in awhile one would hear a story from someone about a bald headed pigeon who would practically take food from ones mouth, as long as it were white bread… I never did hear what eventually happened to Commander and like all else he soon became a memory… 🙂

I learned a lot about life while growing up on the farm… ever day were an adventure and I explored it, mainly left to my own devices and with sometimes strange results… perhaps the time I accidentally blew up Dad’s outhouse, or when Wee Willie ( the Shetland pony) chased a neighbor, or the time Dad almost broke his leg in the haymow while getting too close to the fort I had built… but those are another story to perhaps be told one day..:)

Hello Diary,

It s a Saturday morning, a dreary Saturday morning outdoors….

But all is bright, warm and cozy on the inside… 🙂 have the possibility of a winter storm building up for tomorrow (Sunday) and tomorrow night here on the prairies, preparing for that, otherwise relaxing, working on the fingernails and contemplating the tomorrows… 🙂 I were ask some time back when I first felt or fell in love… after venturing down memory lane briefly, it happened when I was growing up on the farm, thinking the early spring of 1952 or there about…

As I have mentioned in the past, I grew up on a farm in the 1940’s, 1950’s and early 1960’s ( I left the farm in 1963), here is a picture of me and my brother ( I am standing and he is sitting)….

And farming were quite different then as now… we had lifestock (cattle, hogs, chickens, etc) and grain… here is a picture of a unusual cornstalk that Dad grew…

I am standing with my Dad, Mom and sister and my brother is leaning against the ladder… Anyway, it were early spring on the farm and there were a mother cow with calf, it would be her first calf… well, Dad told me the calf would be mine, to grow up with, to take care of, etc… I were happy!!… Now, love isn’t something that can be touched, tasted or even seen…“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched– they must be felt with the heart.” Helen Keller

With it being the mother cow being young and her first calf, there were many things that could go wrong so she needed watched carefully.. And the cattle, like all else on the farm, were not confined but free to wander about and usually went into the 40 acre pasture during the day and stay in the feedlot during the night… and we would milk the cows before they ventured into the pasture and after they returned from the pasture in the late afternoon/evening…

That being said, I would check the mother cow before I went to school in the morning and then again after I returned from school… overtime I became attached to the little calf even though the calf were not born yet… Love knows no boundaries, time, race, gender, distance, etc… those are labels used by the human race to attempt to explain the unexplainable… 🙂

Well, one morning I ventured out to check the mother cow (it were a off and on rainy, snowy morning with some occasional sleet) and I noticed the mother cow had lost weight… I panicked a bit and check the cows posterior and noticed there were some afterbirth present… she had given birth to the calf… I ran around the barn and feedlot looking for the calf but could not be found… the mother cow had abandoned the calf in the pasture… I ran into the house, told Dad, and he said he would take care of the cow and then we would search for the calf… I put on a rain coat and decided I would look for the calf while Dad were taking care of the mother cow…

The grass were knee high to an adult and it took me what seemed like forever to find the little calf, but find the calf I did, near a 1/2 mile from the barn… she were a pretty ebony color with a white face and all four hooves white like the calf were wearing white socks, she were about the size of a medium German Shepherd dog… the calf had some afterbirth still on her as well as some ice and snow… I moved her head to see if she were still alive and she opened her eyes briefly but made no attempt to move… I cleaned her up the best I could, put my raincoat over the calf, shoved a small staff I had in the ground to mark her position and started back to the barn to get Dad when I saw he was on the way with the small tractor and wagon…

I were cold, wet and crying because of my concern over the calf and my love for the little calf as I set on the back of the wagon with the calf’s head on my lap, we got to the barn and I helped Dad clean up, dry off and try to warm the little calf… Dad told me to go into the house and he would stay with the calf…. I gently put the calf’s head down and she opened her eyes briefly… Dad spent the night with the calf, Mom spent the night with me… I did have a brother and sister but they were too young to help…

I went to bed dreaming about growing up with the little calf, trying to find a name for the little calf… Dad spent the night with the little calf, doing everything he could (he even got the electric blanket to keep the calf warm), trying to feed, etc, but the little calf were too weak and with exposed to the weather chill, the little calf passed away during the night…

“Why is it we don’t always recognize the moment when love begins, but we always know when love ends ‘..

The next morning found that I had a 103F degree temperature and the beginning of pneumonia so Mom and Dad took me to the hospital where I spent two days… Dad had buried the little calf in a corner of the pasture where the grave would not be disturbed… when I returned home I were heartbroken, of course, and I found my little tablet with a list of names I wrote down, could not decide and got to thinking, it were spring and soon the flowers would come out of hibernation and bring beauty and life to the world, so I made a small cross, got a crayon to write the name on the cross and I named the little calf “Flower”….

It were that spring on the prairies that I first felt and knew love and I hope that Flower did also in her brief stay in this mortal world….
