Hello Diary,
It is a Friday morning, a holiday weekend arriving here on the prairies… a weekend to remember the fallen who have given the sacrifice while serving… those who passed because mankind, closed minded and filled with hate and prejudice, chose the sword over the pen when trying to settle differences… and all that were accomplished was the sowing of more seeds of hate, anger and suffering…
I know first hand about the cost of conflict… that is me sitting on the ground, South Vietnam, 1966…. It were a beautiful country with pleasant people who simply wish to follow their dream…unfortunately there were closed minded elements of worlds societies who were only interested in their dream, ready to sacrifice anyone else’s dream… fortunately for me, I survived the conflict relatively unscathed… 🙂
(me sitting on the ground).

We were volunteers, one and all So Noble.. Proud.. and Brave, Did not know the reasons for war Just a people from tyranny to save! Glasses held high, we made an toast Surely that Victory would rule the day! While back at home, the voices of unrest Not a kind word for us did they say. Some could not vote, children were we Some not old enough to drink, but still our battle cry, Even with all that we could not do For us children, it was to do or die! Vietnam was a hostile, violent land The dangers, the horrors of war abound, Whether the paddies of Vietnam or the fields of home, Seemed for us, not a friend could be found. But we proudly gave it our all Faced our destiny, with a hint of fear of tomorrow Some to return to a mother’s joy Some to return to a mother’s sorrow. So should you be looking on today One more toast, hold your glasses high, To PEACE, HOPE and LOVE, may they long endure CHEERS, LADS AND LASSIES!!!.. And SEMPER FI (Sgt, Larry “Dutch” Woller, 12th Marine Regiment, Vietnam, 1965–1966...)Here on the path there will be a pause to think, not only of the fallen, but also those who sacrificed their dreams also, the Mothers, Fathers, Wife’s, Husbands, Daughters and Sons of the fallen who will be remembered this holiday weekend… 🙂 And once the pause is over, all attention will be focused on the pen and hopefully wisdom will one day reign, peace will rule the land and the universe will be celebrating the living, not the dead… 🙂
Well, I had better close for now… the vaccination were relatively painless and, while I will proceed with caution, am ready to leave safe harbor, set sails follow my heart… but I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise… 🙂
Until we meet again.. May the love that you give Always return to you, That family and friends are many And always remain true, May your mind only know peace No suffering or strife, May your spirit only know love and happiness On your journey through life. (Larry “Dutch” Woller)
