Spring, winter, gardening and being different on the path least traveled…

Dear Diary from the path least traveled…

Hello Diary,

Taking a break in the days activities and chasing rainbows to leave some thoughts.. no rainbows outside today I fear.. had a pleasant spring like day yesterday as I was browsing around the yard taking notes in preparation for spring…have had record warm temps and seeing signs of spring with robins, etc

robin

.. also with the backyard plants..

feb-flowers

Yesterday had temps in the mid 60’s with a slight breeze, unfortunately woke up this morning (24 hours later) to 28 degrees and this..

winter-feb-25-2017

Horrors!… but it is still winter… 🙂 …. though still thinking spring, have plenty of used flower pots so recycling them into onion pots…

onion-bed

Going to try to grow green onions in them..with climate change, weather, etc becoming difficult to grow in the ground so will put in the pots and will be easier to maintain..

onion-pot

I can move the pots around and easier to take care of…so that is my brief bit of gardening for the moment… will spend the rest of the weekend preparing for next week (a warm up forecasted.. 🙂 ), have my annual appointment at the VA Wednesday but that shouldn’t take long…feeling pretty good at the moment, on a healthy food diet, exercising in the morning and then doing Tai Chi in the afternoon before calling it a day.. also have my meditation that I do and part of that is my paint by numbers…

paint-by-numbers

Listen to some quiet music while relaxing and adding some paint…got me a large clamp on magnifying glass for some of those numbers… 🙂

Well, I had better close for now and get on with the day, enjoy every second of it.. gave Bree a animal cracker a short while ago and she is now trying to find a place to “stash” it……

bree-hiding-cracker

she has them all over the house and she remembers where they are when she wants one…. 🙂 will leave some thoughts in the form of quotes as I go…

“We sometimes must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” Joseph Campbell

“Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.” Jim Rohn

“Many people die at age 25 but aren’t buried until they are 75.” Benjamin Franklin

Watching the news today, it is sad how many mortals have their spirits shackled to a given ideology… unlike Bree and I, which makes us “different” and therefore enjoying life..

I Believe I’d Like To Be Different Instead…

And why do I wish to be different, you may ask,
The freedom to choose, to explore, to learn a lot,
Dictated to by a prophet chained to a myth…. NOT
Maybe so everyone can shout and point at me and Bree,
And say, “Hey, they’re different”, don’t you see.

My mind is clear and open, gathering knowledge every day
My spirit is young, adventuresome and floating free,
Not confined by those social chains, no box, no mold for me
I am what I am, I am me, what I wish to be,
So that makes me different, don’t you see.

Many a way Bree is like me, a match pair we are, two of a kind
Sails set full, safe harbor fading in the distance, a faint glow to eye and mind,
So with a pocket full of memories, on the horizon are our dreams
On down the path least traveled we will venture, me and little Bree,
Why the path least traveled?..Well, we’re different, don’t you see.
(Penned by Larry “Dutch” Woller 6-22-2010)

That being said, it is on down the path we will travel but shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise….

And speaking of today’s chaotic world, I agree with Ms. Streisand for us who are different..

Flying machines, wigs and tree leaves on the path least traveled…

Dear Diary from the path least traveled…

Hello Diary,

Back again after a busy week.. the weather has been above normal this week, sunny and spring like, blue skies save for mortal man and his flying machine leaving contrails while in search for his/her destiny…

contrails-1

so took advantage and ventured out into the yard and gardens mainly to deal with leaves and have the compost bin filled…

compost-bin

So have 99% of the leaves dealt with so ahead of schedule for spring, also took some notes for changes I wish to do when spring comes…after a busy week with Bree as supervisor (she is doing fine, still has some health issues) we are having a relaxing “me” weekend… decided I should wash some of my wigs… I am not into “bald”, still have my hair bit getting thin and debated on a hair piece or wig.. acting on my late wife’s suggestion, along with a number of cancer patients, and taking a que from Sarah Underwood (on the daily show “The Talk”) opted for a full wig even though I have my hair…
And that deals with two things; 1. mental wellness, I don’t feel uncomfortable with thin or bald. 2. physical wellness, being fair skinned, the wig helps protect me from the rays of the sun as a way of cancer prevention…my brother is dealing with skin cancer as I speak, so far not the serious kind thankfully…I have shoulder length and short and thanks to the internet relatively inexpensive..my better wigs I wear for mainly going to town (and around the house)…

dress-up-wig

And I have some that are my “everyday” wear for mainly around the house…

every-day-wig

The difficulty is trying to get the color close to what my natural hair is and do pretty well after some experimenting.. And on my everyday wear, sometimes I will do my own cutting to get the style I wish…

trimmed-hairpiece

So, that takes care of the hair… 🙂 after trying different devices, decided on purchasing a Kindle Paperwhite for reading..that is all it is for…

paperwhite

It works much better than the android tablets, etc..is light weight with a back up light for reading, really like it so far…so that kind of brings you up to date on the path least traveled…as you can see, as in everything else, there is change taking place, and will leave you some change quotes as I go;

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” Barack Obama

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” John F. Kennedy

“It is change, continuing change, inevitable change, that is the dominant factor in society today. No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account not only the world as it is, but the world as it will be.” Isaac Asimov

That being said, will take my leave as Bree and I venture on down the path least traveled, eagerly looking forward to what the next bend in the path, what the horizon has in store for us..but we shall return one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise….

As for what change will bring… well, tomorrow is another new day..

A Wintry Day While Living Life On The Path Least Traveled…

Dear Diary from the path least traveled…

Hello Diary,

Back again after a busy week of living the todays and planning the tomorrows… Bree is doing fine, back to her old self in spite of the heart issues, I am ok but for the sinuses but that is a never ending issue one has to live with….the week started fine weather wise, almost like spring out with 60 degree temps Tuesday, but that were short lived, come Wednesday winter returned…

snow-2-8-17

A view from outer space, the snow is circled in red…

snow-fall

A good day to stay indoors and contemplate the day and life in general… what does one do on a day such as this…well, to begin with, did a load of laundry…

laundry

With just me I hang to dry instead of using a dryer… saves on expense, reduces dependence on fossil fuels and emissions… then I prepared meals for rest of the week and weekend, takes about a hour…

three-dinners

Have food put away till ready to microwave and eat, then opted to do a little voluntary transcribing for the State of Illinois to put on Wikipedia, have been doing this for over a year now…

transcribing

And after finishing that, while on the pc I finished putting together a poem I had written..

When Is The Right Time One Would Ask….
To climb a mountain
To fly a plane,
To hug a friend
To run naked in the rain.
To stand up tall
To make your thoughts known,
To blend with a crowd
To go it alone.
To till the field
To go to war,
To pen a poem of love
To write a musical score.
To take this path
To maybe take the other,
To open ones heart
To share it with another.
(penned by Larry “Dutch” Woller 10-23-2015).

And as Enya would say, Only Time Knows…

After all of that, decided to set down and do a bit of painting.. no, not a picture but fingernails..with the cost of buying finished nails, decided to make my own.. so I purchase blanks..

unfinished-nails

Then I purchase the polish I want (after some trial and error.. 🙂 ) and make my own..

finished-nails

My real nails, which are brittle and break easy, are protected and I do not look like some Neanderthal…. 🙂 and with my list of chores and projects completed, I made some notes for the tomorrows and finished the day… and so a quiet wintry day was had with an occasional thought about tomorrow and on that note will take my leave after leaving some quotes;

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.” Denis Waitley

“My greatest beauty secret is being happy with myself. I don’t use special creams or treatments – I’ll use a little bit of everything. It’s a mistake to think you are what you put on yourself. I believe that a lot of how you look is to do with how you feel about yourself and your life. Happiness is the greatest beauty secret.” Tina Turner

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” Jimi Hendrix

“A house that is built with patience, understanding and love will withstand the strongest winds of difficulties and conflict , a house built with haste and insincerity will collapse in a mere breeze of discontent.” (Larry Woller 6-21-2007)

All of that has to do with living a life given to oneself as only the mortal can live, no one else can live it and will only get one try at it..I am a free spirit in a mortal body, not shackled to any ideology and living a life by thoughts and feelings from within, not conjured up in the minds of others.. 🙂

That being said, will take my leave now and get on with the life I mentioned, chasing rainbows while contemplating the future.. I will return again one day, Diary, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise….

While on the subject of life, believe Yanni has some input also…

Living the present, preparing for the future on the path least traveled

Dear Diary, from the path least traveled…

Hello Diary,

Back sooner than I had thought I would but had a good week, got lots done, made some plans and worked on my conservation project, have had a shower and thought I would leave a few thoughts…Bree and I are continuing on down the path, living and enjoying the moment, looking forward to the next… have meals prepared for Sat. and Sun. (tonight, Fri., is traditional TV dinner night, no cooking… 🙂 )…

sat-sun-supper

So I don’t have to cook this weekend, just the micro and have a “Me” weekend, chasing rainbows with Bree.. can work on projects and spring preparations.. need to start on seed shelling, have a plant called the “Silver Dollar” that looks like a silver dollar at full bloom..

silver-dollar

Also have some “rat-tail radish” that looks like a green bean with a tail but tastes like a radish, easy to grow in warm and hot temp, unlike the normal radish…

rat-tail-radish

Not to mention the fact that there are a lot of them on one small bush, unlike the normal radish….. also working on the water color a bit, have the basic trees in so the background is now ready to detail the background and then start on the hummer and flowers….

water-color-2

That, along with other projects, are part of my “meditation” for relaxing and reduce any stress… also over the past year, and continuing, I have been working on conservation… seeing how there are those that don’t seem to wish to, primarily Republicans, I am doing my part for the environment and the planet…. have devised ways to reduced dependence on fossil fuels, reduced pollution and have saved me some money and still able to live a meaningful, enjoyable life and not sacrifice or go without… and, some of that money that I have saved goes to needy organizations like Planned Parenthood, local food bank, public radio/tv, etc (the Republicans are paying for it, like it or not as it is coming out of their economy 🙂 )… it seems the Republicans can not embrace change, but change is happening, it is the way of all things…. ask the Seekers…

Well, I had better scoot, get a bit to eat and settle in for the evening, a bit of TV and Sherlock Holmes (reading)… while on the subject of change, in leaving will share some quotes;

“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity and conservation, all of which may appear to give one a peace of mind but in reality, nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit.” Christopher McCandless

“Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable.” William Pollard

“Capitalism does not permit an even flow of economic resources. With this system, a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience, and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level. That’s the way the system works. And since we know that the system will not change the rules, we are going to have to change the system. “ Martin Luther King, Jr.

That being said I will bid you Adieu, Dairy, and return again one day to share thoughts, memories and dreams as we venture down the path least traveled, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise…

Life…
