Hello Diary,

No internet yet, hopefully online by Friday… it is a Tuesday and dealing with winter and it appears winter may be here for awhile… but there is a rainbow out there somewhere and will keep looking while living life with a open mind… sharing thoughts with you, Diary, with the heart doing the talking and the fingers doing the walking… 🙂

The subject of love, the definition of love, has come up in the past… will share two thoughts, one from my late friend and poet, Chris Clark of Skendleby, England..

The Man I Love!
He knows me
Better than I know myself!
And yet – in the World view of us –
We do not know each other!
He loves me!
(More than I love myself!)
And yet – as the World knows Love –
We’ve never touched each other!
He moves me!
As no other man has done;
Because – could the World’s eyes see –
Each of us IS the other!
(First draft, to Larry, on 11.10.08. Chris E Clark.)

She never finished it, or maybe she did… 🙂 the second is something I found online some time ago and believe it speaks about what love is about…. 🙂

To Love YOU..

To Love you is to daydream of you often, think of you so much, to speak of you proudly, and miss you terribly when we are apart.
To Love you is to cherish the warmth of your arms, the sweetness of your kiss, the friendliness of your smile, the loving sound in your voice, and the happiness we share……
To Love you is to never forget the adversity we have overcome, the tears we have shed, the plans we have made, the problems we have solved, and the pain of separation.
To Love you is to remember joyfully the days we made memorable, the moments that will live forever in our hearts, the dreams we hope for, the caress and touches of love, and the exhilaration of love that fills our hearts.
To Love you is to need you, want you, hold you, and know you as no one else can.
To Love you is to realize that life without you would be no life at all……..
(Author Unknown)

Well, I had better close…hopefully will be online soon and can share more thoughts… in the meantime will follow my dreams and seek out adventure on the path least traveled… but I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise…

In some of my poetry I make mention of the 12th of Never… there is a song about love called The 12th of Never that explains love also… 🙂

Christmas Gift by Maureen…

The gifts I’d leave beneath your tree
Aren’t those that you can touch or see.
Not wrapped in Christmas tissue gay
But gifts to bless you every day.

The gift of friendship warm and true
Is one that I would leave for you,
Good health and happiness and cheer
To keep you smiling through the year.

The gift of peace that comes from God
With prayer to guide each path you trod
And when your heart has lost its song
The gift of hope to cheer you on.

These are the gifts I’d leave for you.

Hello Diary,

A wintry Saturday morning here… were hoping for a mild holiday but appears that winter may be here to stay… 🙂 woke up Thursday morning with Ole Man Winter making his presence known…

thurs morn snow

Friday morning appeared to be a pleasant sunny day, from indoors…

But appearances can be deceiving as it were 9F degrees outside… the white on the trees is called hoarfrost, cause by freezing fog as it were foggy outdoors…but back indoors it were a balmy 67 degrees, no fog and a gentle breeze (created by ceiling fans)… just right to re-pot the poinsettia as I knew it would not survive in the pot it were currently in.. so I gathered up supplies….

repotting poin

And managed to put the little poinsettia in a comfy pot without damaging the plant…

poin in pot

So now will do our best to help the little plant.. Now, I am efficient at growing green beans and tomatoes but caring for indoor tropical plants is not my forte… 🙂 I have two Philodendron plants, one is live and the other is artificial, and there is a lively debate at the local pub as to which one I will kill first… 🙂 but press on we shall, for there are no white flags flying on the path least traveled… 🙂

And speaking of flowers, the holidays are about love, not about technology, and nothing is more loving than a holiday bouquet… 🙂

A Christmas Bouquet for you, my love
Each bloom has been chosen in hopes to convey,
To bring in the season of joy this year
With my message of love this day.

With a red Carnation,
To show how my heart aches for you,
Posies of Forget-Me-Nots
To show my love is true.

And fragrant Freesias,
Embracing trust we share,
With Lilies of the Valley
Returning happiness and care.

Lovely daisies to show,
My love is loyal – undivided,
As the Phlox whispers softly
Our spirits are united.

And I’ve added Primrose,
To remind you again,
That I can’t live without you
And with you I’ll remain.

And all about this Christmas bouquet
Are sprigs of Baby’s Breath… sown,
So delicately displayed
With a message of their own.

So with this Christmas bouquet, my love
I shall eternally bestow,
A heartfelt message of love
Even these blooms seem to know.

Merry Christmas….
(Larry “Dutch’ Woller)

And the holidays are about the little folks, their minds and heart open, filled with wonder and dreams..society has not intruded yet… 🙂 I remember one Christmas past (no pc, smart phones, etc)….

The initial objective were to get all the gifts unwrapped as rapidly as possible, adding to the confusion as one gets to the point of trying to decide which gift to check out first… Kim with hands on hips, decisions, decisions… 🙂

“When one suddenly finds oneself in a swamp up to one’s armpits in alligators, it is difficult to remember the objective was to drain the swamp”..

There were another holiday when decorating the tree, Eric and Kim were not in school yet… gave them a few ornaments, about 10 each, to put where they wish to… they were not very tall and Kim followed Eric and they put all the ornaments in one small place.. could have covered all 20 with a small towel.. 🙂 but Santa’s helpers arrived during the night, decorating the rest of the tree, leaving the kids ornaments where they put them… it were the best tree ever… 🙂

Well, I had better close for now… venture on down the path, more memories to gather, dreams to follow, make sure I don’t get on Santa’s “have been bad” list… but I shall return one day, Diary, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise..

Yes, the holidays are about the little folks, and while they may be more attached to Mom (for obvious reasons) “ The love a mother has for her children is legendary, it is said a child is the mother’s heart outside her body.” , with a loving, open heart Dad can be part of the holiday spirit also…. “Life gives us brief moments with another, but sometimes in those brief moments we get memories that last a lifetime, So live that your memories will be part of your happiness.”

Little folks are people too
Very much like me and you
The little things they say and do
They kinda make your day

Foolishness and common sense
Through the eyes of innocence
Skip a rope or jump a fence
Gettin’ in the way

Daddy, why are you so tall?
Daddy, why am I so small?
Daddy, who makes snowflakes fall?
Could it be the Lord?

Chasing puppies, climbin’ trees
Bumping heads and skinnin’ knees
It’s not very hard to see
That kids are God’s reward

Little folks get down and out
The girls will cry and boys will pout
Before you know what it’s about
They’re smiling once again

Colored kites on summer breeze
Jingle Bells and Christmas trees
Too soon they’re only memories
Do you remember when?

Daddy, what makes eagles fly?
What makes clouds float in the sky?
And Daddy, if I really try
Will I grow up someday?

But little folks slip through our hands
Like so many grains of sand
You’d best enjoy them while you can
So soon they fly away…

Hello Diary,

It s a Saturday morning, a dreary Saturday morning outdoors….

Sat morning

But all is bright, warm and cozy on the inside… 🙂 have the possibility of a winter storm building up for tomorrow (Sunday) and tomorrow night here on the prairies, preparing for that, otherwise relaxing, working on the fingernails and contemplating the tomorrows… 🙂 I were ask some time back when I first felt or fell in love… after venturing down memory lane briefly, it happened when I was growing up on the farm, thinking the early spring of 1952 or there about…

As I have mentioned in the past, I grew up on a farm in the 1940’s, 1950’s and early 1960’s ( I left the farm in 1963), here is a picture of me and my brother ( I am standing and he is sitting)….

On the farm

And farming were quite different then as now… we had lifestock (cattle, hogs, chickens, etc) and grain… here is a picture of a unusual cornstalk that Dad grew…

I am standing with my Dad, Mom and sister and my brother is leaning against the ladder… Anyway, it were early spring on the farm and there were a mother cow with calf, it would be her first calf… well, Dad told me the calf would be mine, to grow up with, to take care of, etc… I were happy!!… Now, love isn’t something that can be touched, tasted or even seen…“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched– they must be felt with the heart.” Helen Keller

With it being the mother cow being young and her first calf, there were many things that could go wrong so she needed watched carefully.. And the cattle, like all else on the farm, were not confined but free to wander about and usually went into the 40 acre pasture during the day and stay in the feedlot during the night… and we would milk the cows before they ventured into the pasture and after they returned from the pasture in the late afternoon/evening…

That being said, I would check the mother cow before I went to school in the morning and then again after I returned from school… overtime I became attached to the little calf even though the calf were not born yet… Love knows no boundaries, time, race, gender, distance, etc… those are labels used by the human race to attempt to explain the unexplainable… 🙂

“Love is the expansion of two natures in such fashion that each include the other, each is enriched by the other.” Felix Adler

Love is more like a not written, not said invitation…

A Invitation..

I received a invitation one day
Oh, not your regular kind,
The words not spoken or written
But were in the heart and mind.

To share a love and happiness
A love, that is precious and true,
A happiness that is eternal
That only lovers and dreamers knew.

The invite did not come the regular way
No cards, no letters, no phone, no email.. you see,
It just appeared one quiet sunny day
In the depths, the spirit and heart of me.

The invite came from an unknown
A unknown too great for me to behold,
But it is to be a precious beginning,
Of a story, one day to be told.

( Larry “Dutch” Woller )

Well, one morning I ventured out to check the mother cow (it were a off and on rainy, snowy morning with some occasional sleet) and I noticed the mother cow had lost weight… I panicked a bit and check the cows posterior and noticed there were some afterbirth present… she had given birth to the calf… I ran around the barn and feedlot looking for the calf but could not be found… the mother cow had abandoned the calf in the pasture… I ran into the house, told Dad, and he said he would take care of the cow and then we would search for the calf… I put on a rain coat and decided I would look for the calf while Dad were taking care of the mother cow…

The grass were knee high to an adult and it took me what seemed like forever to find the little calf, but find the calf I did, near a 1/2 mile from the barn… she were a pretty ebony color with a white face and all four hooves white like the calf were wearing white socks, she were about the size of a medium German Shepherd dog… the calf had some afterbirth still on her as well as some ice and snow… I moved her head to see if she were still alive and she opened her eyes briefly but made no attempt to move… I cleaned her up the best I could, put my raincoat over the calf, shoved a small staff I had in the ground to mark her position and started back to the barn to get Dad when I saw he was on the way with the small tractor and wagon…

I were cold, wet and crying because of my concern over the calf and my love for the little calf as I set on the back of the wagon with the calf’s head on my lap, we got to the barn and I helped Dad clean up, dry off and try to warm the little calf… Dad told me to go into the house and he would stay with the calf…. I gently put the calf’s head down and she opened her eyes briefly… Dad spent the night with the calf, Mom spent the night with me… I did have a brother and sister but they were too young to help…

I went to bed dreaming about growing up with the little calf, trying to find a name for the little calf… Dad spent the night with the little calf, doing everything he could (he even got the electric blanket to keep the calf warm), trying to feed, etc, but the little calf were too weak and with exposed to the weather chill, the little calf passed away during the night…

“Why is it we don’t always recognize the moment when love begins, but we always know when love ends ‘..

The next morning found that I had a 103F degree temperature and the beginning of pneumonia so Mom and Dad took me to the hospital where I spent two days… Dad had buried the little calf in a corner of the pasture where the grave would not be disturbed… when I returned home I were heartbroken, of course, and I found my little tablet with a list of names I wrote down, could not decide and got to thinking, it were spring and soon the flowers would come out of hibernation and bring beauty and life to the world, so I made a small cross, got a crayon to write the name on the cross and I named the little calf “Flower”….

It were that spring on the prairies that I first felt and knew love and I hope that Flower did also in her brief stay in this mortal world….

“There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn, people we can’t live without but have to let go.”
― Nancy Stephan

And it were that spring on the prairies that I first felt heartache…

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” ― Dr. Seuss

It is difficult to imagine a world without love….

“Love knows no bounds or time, love is the spirit of the heart, love is the life support of hope, love is the force behind compassion, love is the foundation for true friendships, relationships….without love, life is barren and cold”…. (Larry “Dutch” Woller)

Love is like music….

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” Plato

Well, I have rambled enough, will get on with the day and venture down the path, dreams to follow, rainbows and adventures to find… a path filled with love…. But I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise… 🙂

Hello Diary,

Well, Diary, internet is fixed and I have returned (is that moaning and groaning I hear????.. )… life, and the heart, continued on without technology…… 🙂 it is the end of the week again, time is moving on, especially if one is like me and “over the hill and picking up speed”… 🙂

Over the week, ventured out into the gardens for a bit… observed a swallow tail butterfly had stopped for a snack before continuing on its journey…

Saw some activity nearby with some bees and other insects… a hosta was in full bloom and had the attention of the backyard insects…

blooming hosta

Also observed some mushrooms growing near a stump…

I am reasonably certain that these mushrooms are not for human consumption but there are backyard creatures that do consume them… I do not use chemicals on the yard, plants, etc so they are safe for all my friends in the gardens and yard… I also use a electric mower…

I use it to decrease the dependency on fossil fuel and to decrease releasing chemicals, etc into the atmosphere.. There are plenty of folks that talk about it but I make every attempt to do it… may not make much of an impact but I will go to my grave knowing I tried… 🙂

Also talked a bit about pets and nostalgia … we had two, both Jack Russell terriers.. they were like family.. My late wife and Miss Daisy….

miss daisy

They were joined at the hip… 🙂 Miss Daisy passed away in 2014 (20 years)…. My shadow were little Bree…

Bree and popcorn chicken

You see her with me at the Walmart with her favorite meal, popcorn chicken… I got her when she were 6 months old and I was her fourth owner… like me, she were different… 🙂 she passed away in 2017 (17 years)…

Well, I had better quit rambling on and close, life is calling and I had better see what it has in store for me…. 🙂

Life Is Now….

Time flies, and memories fade.
People change and new friendships are made.
Only the true remain forever at our side.
Eventually the disappointment and pain will subside.

It is all about the journey and what has yet to come.
Life is what you make of it; you are what you’ve become.
Life is too short to hold onto regrets.
Forgiveness is key even though you may never forget.

Cherish the good and remove the bad.
Some people don’t realize till it’s gone what they’ve had.
Moving on is a way of life.
There will always be obstacles, pain, and strife.

You must believe that you are strong enough to fight.
You have to believe in yourself to do what is right.
Always do for YOU no matter what you do,
Because in the end the only one who has your back is you.

Never be afraid to take a stand,
And always be willing to lend a helping hand.
A little bit goes a long way.
All it takes is a smile to brighten someone’s day.

Your chance to live is now, so what are you waiting for?
The world is yours for the taking and so much more.
Endless possibilities are forever at your disposal.
The chance to live another day is life’s golden proposal.

Never let anyone tear you down,
And never let anyone steal your shine and make you frown.
So will you sit in the shadows and let darkness win again?
Or will you rise up and make the light your friend?
(Hollianne Boucher)

But I shall return again one day, fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise…. 🙂

One final thought… “When a friend is in trouble, don’t annoy the friend by asking if there is anything you can do. Think up something appropriate and do it.” and my friends can count on me… why one would ask? because that is what friends are for… 🙂

Hello Diary,
It is a Saturday morning, a fine day but unfortunately no internet… however, as Jean de La Bruyere would say; “no road is too long for him who advances slowly and does not hurry, and no attainment is beyond his reach who equips himself with patience to achieve it.”

So using my phone, will not be the usual, but will share a few brief thoughts… Sundays I usually contemplate my tomorrow’s…in history’s past I penned some thoughts…

Just Color Me A Free Spirit

I’m just a free spirit
Open mind and heart is all I’ll be,
Don’t need much money
Being rich is not for me.

I have a pocket full of dreams
My fate, has yet to be told,
As I said from safe harbor
While watching my destiny unfold

I am not in a “box”
No social chains, you’ll see,
As down the path least traveled
Adventure waits for me.

Not interested in a “image”
Reality is my forte,
I am who I am, leaving no stone unturned
Exploring life each and every day.

Waking up to a world born free
With creatures in their daily rush,
Pursuing their own destiny’s
Before sunset brings the evening hush.

The morning air smells clean and freshman
As I awake, it always brings a smile,
Can hear the sound of a distant train
That will travel many a mile.

Yes, just color me a free spirit
For most social grace’s I won’t fit,
Society wouldn’t approve anyway
And frankly, I won’t lose sleep over it.

(Larry “Dutch” Woller)

“I am free born and free bred, where I acknowledge no man as my superior, except for his own worth, or as my inferior, except for his own demerit” Theodore Roosevelt

Sad to say I have to close now, but I shall return again one day, Fate (and the internet) willin’ and the creeks don’t rise….

May be midweek before internet returns, but we will meet again 🙂

Hello Diary,

A foggy, rainy day to be had, staying indoors for the most part working on projects and chores… have laundry in the washer so thought I would pop in and leave a few thoughts… near the end of the week and my “to do” list is getting larger… 🙂 I did manage to clean and blanche the beans and got them ready for the freezer…

green beans for freezer

Put them on a cookie sheet and put in the freezer so they would not stick together, got them out this morning and put in a bag…

green beans in baggie

Put in the freezer and ready for when I need green beans… ventured out this morning (around 4 AM, still dark) to collect data from my weather instruments when I saw a spider had his “ambush” set up….

spider 1

It is a good thing I had a flashlight and were watching for spiders or I would have walked into the web… 🙂 after it became daylight I went back out and seen that the spider had taken the web down….

spider gone

I will have to be alert tomorrow morning for who knows where the spider will set up the next “ambush”… 🙂

I believe the last time I popped in I chatted a bit about Hope… well, today will pen some thoughts about being oneself and happiness… “It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.” (Agnes Repplier )

One day in history’s past, I sat down with a spot of tea (green tea with a bit of honey) and contemplated the path I should take to be myself and know happiness (which is why I took the path least traveled)… and I agreed with John Rohn; “Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.” (Jim Rohn)

Of course, the ever present social and religious ideologies sometimes will put pressure on oneself while one tries to live the life they wish to… I had thought about that when the words from two people came to mind Robert Frost; “Never be bullied into silence, never allow yourself to be made a victim, accept no one’s definition of your life, define yourself”… (Robert Frost)…

And, of course, Eleanor Roosevelt; “You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realize how seldom they do”.. (Eleanor Roosevelt)…. Well, armed with resolve I ventured forth making subtle changes, tweaking this and that, experimenting, etc… soon people were looking at me somewhat confused and perplexed… 🙂 “When someone tells you “you’ve changed”, it might be because you have stopped living your life their way”.. (John Pence)

Knowing who I am and wish to be “Confidence is knowing who you are and not changing it a bit because of someone’s version of reality is not your reality.” (Shannon L. Alder ) and armed with dreams in my pocket, a open mind and heart, own down the path I ventured… some years back I penned some thoughts about it actually… 🙂

Just Color Me A Free Spirit….

Hello Diary,

It is the beginning of the week again, time keeps moving along, with or without me… 🙂 the weather will be a bit iffy, but still have projects, chores and errands to deal with, the mundane side of life… 🙂 have a photo of another sunset…

And speaking of photos, heard a loud chirping sound and saw a little House Wren in the neighborhood..

Not doubt giving me some pointers about taking care of the backyard… 🙂 and speaking of the backyard, one of the project/tasks to do is dealing with the first batch of green beans…

green beans

Will have to blanche them and get them ready for the freezer… they will taste pretty good when Ole Man Winter comes calling… 🙂

As I venture through the universe, I notice there a some who have to deal with the adversity of illness, of different types and degrees… it can be challenging at times, but the best medicine is a positive attitude and high hope… I am no stranger to the adversity of illness either…

My late wife was dealing with a back pain in her lower back for near a year, going to doctor, chiropractor, taking medication, etc x-ray showing little… in the fall of 2012 it kept getting worse and they finally decided on a MRI and a small tumor was found near the base of her spine and eating away at the spine… well, surgery were required and they had to put pins in the back to support the spine… the tumor was sent to the Mayo Clinic for evaluation… the tumor was determined to be malignant and after 2-3 weeks of tests, scans, etc it was determined that she had an aggressive form of Stage 4 Lung Cancer… a positive attitude, reinforced with hope, were put in place and the battle was on..

To keep a long story (and journey) short, she lost the battle but won the war when she passed away in March of 2015 (we would have been married 51 years in July 2015)… I remember the Chaplain coming into her room and he ask her if she had a religion, she said “No”, he then ask her if she believed in the hereafter and she said “Yes”, he said “good, it’s what is in the heart that is important, not a name above the door”… positive attitude and hope were there to the last heartbeat even when we said our “byes” (I never say goodbye because it sounds too much like forever)… 🙂

After battling a number of illnesses herself but refusing to give up, my Mom (at the age of 95) passed away in December 2015…

So to all (and everyone in your life), stay positive and even though some days will be diamonds and other days stone, put your trust in your heart and hope and they guide you through it all… 🙂

Hope is the light that keeps darkness at bay
Hope is the breeze on a hot summer day.
Hope is ever present and free of cost
Hope is the last thing ever lost.

Hope is staying positive when the going gets tough
Hope is seeking help when you feel you’ve had enough.
Hope is recovery from simmering sorrow
Hope is believing in a brighter tomorrow.
(Linda Hotger)

As for me, well, I have some arthritis of the spine and other minor growing old issues… I no longer are a young lad with a life ahead of him, my clock is ticking down and I could say my life is behind me and I am just hanging around to see how it all ends, but that is not true, one can do a lot of living in a seconds time… “If my doctor told me I had only six minutes to live, I wouldn’t brood. I’d type a little faster.” Isaac Asimov… 🙂

Oh, yesterdays over my shoulder
So I can’t look back for too long
There’s just too much to see, waiting in front of me
And I know that I just can’t go wrong. (Jimmy Buffet)

So it is in down the path I go, challenging thunderstorms and overcoming adversity.. why one would ask?.. Because I can… 🙂

It Is Down The Path Least Traveled I Shall Go..

It is down the path least traveled I shall go
To a rainbow filled horizon I venture,
To seek, to learn, know peace, to enjoy life
A path filled with wonderful adventure.

A place where one is accepted as who they are
A spirit kindled to life, when mortal born,
A being coming from the depths within
And not subject to ridicule and scorn.

A place where I know freedom of thought and being
I am what I am, don’t you see,
Neither this one, neither that one, but all the above
In a mortal world, a free spirit, that’s me.

I do not travel the path alone, you see
There are memories and spirits to behold,
Those that share… the joy and sadness
As I gather more memories, down that least traveled road.

So how long will my journey be, one would ask
Will I see the end of the path…ever?
The answer, I believe, lies on the horizon
Somewhere past… the 12th of Never….

So I shall bring my ramblings to an end
For there is one fact that I do know,
To reach the horizon, the 12th of Never
It’s down the path least traveled I must go!

Well, I had better close for now, I woke up on the green side of the grass, have approximately 2,793,000 seconds before it is time to go to bed, a lot of living yet to do so I had better get on with it… but I shall return again one day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise..

I believe that Frank and the gang have some more thoughts about High Hopes… 🙂
