Diary of the journey on the path least traveled..
(No nominations please, just sharing thoughts while exploring life 🙂 ).
“I don’t trust people who don’t love themselves and tell me, ‘I love you.’ … There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt” Maya Angelou
“A single rose can be my garden… a single friend, my world.” Leo Buscaglia
“It’s so funny you judge me arrogant after I succeeded. You didn’t help me at all when I was so poor and needy.” Toba Beta
Hello Diary,
It is a Friday, the week is almost over with errands, tasks and chores near done… it is time to quietly and briefly take note of things learned from the yesterdays and contemplate the tomorrows… with a spot of tea in hand, thought I would leave a few thoughts… observed a unusual sunrise the other day…
Reminded me of those old horror movies of history’s past, like The Hound Of The Baskervilles… Brrrrrrr 🙂 …. On a lighter note, ventured out just after sunrise and saw this spider web (near center of picture), covered with dew, near a pine tree…
They have been on the increase as of late, and being as I am gathering weather data before the sun rises, I have to use the flashlight and be careful so I do not walk into one…. 🙂 wandered into the gardens and saw a butterfly checking out the flowers….
Also spotted this Monarch butterfly hovering about, they are fond of milkweed but I don’t have any here…
The Monarch use to be quite plentiful, but thanks to the activities of mankind, their numbers are dwindling… getting away from the gardens for a time, I have been ask how I acquired the nickname “Dutch’… I had touched upon it briefly in the past but will do so again….
It started when I were in South Vietnam (circa 1966) when I were a member of a at-large observer team attached to the 12th Marine Regiment….
I am the one sitting on the ground with my gear (a few minutes before the photo were taken I were air lifted into the area by helicopter)…. That being said, I am of German ancestry (my roots were in Eastern Germany in an area known in history’s past as Prussia) and my family came to this part of the prairie from New Orleans and the Mississippi River as well as New York… the settled area were mainly German ancestry and soon became affectionately known as “Dutch Flats”…
That being said, the USO had a program called Pen Pals (Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, Facebook wouldn’t be born for another 18 years) where we could write to families in the USA, other then our own… I started communicating with a family from Illinois and over time the kids decided I needed a nickname… sooooooooo, with me being of German ancestry, I grew up in Dutch Flats and my middle initial is D, they decided that Dutch would be my new nickname, they would address my letter as Larry “Dutch” Woller, soon others started calling me by Dutch (instead of “Hey You” 🙂 ) and now you know the rest of the story… 🙂
I have also been asked when the time is right to do certain things…. I have penned a few thoughts about when the time is right… 🙂
When Is The Right Time, One Would Ask….
To climb a mountain
To fly a plane,
To hug a friend
To run naked in the rain.
To stand up tall
To make your thoughts known,
To blend with a crowd
To go it alone.
To till the field
To go to war,
To pen a poem of love
To write a musical score.
To take this path
To maybe take the other,
To open ones heart
To share it with another.
Today, tomorrow perhaps?
The answer is in the heart, you see,
So when is the time right, one asks
When your heart wishes for it to be..
(penned by Larry “Dutch” Woller 10-23-2015).
Better close for now and venture on down the path… have some rainbows to check out though not looking for the pot of gold…. “If I traveled to the end of the rainbow as Dame Fortune did intend, Murphy would be there to tell me the pot’s at the other end.” Ed Koch 🙂
Looking for dreams and answers, much more valuable than gold…. 🙂 but I shall return another day, Fate be willin’ and the creeks don’t rise…
So, when is the time right? it is your choice to make, but only if you want to….right Enya?… 🙂
Love your poem, Dutch.

Lovely share Dutch! I’m not a big Enya fan even though I’m Irish but I love the lyrics. Glad we don’t see spider webs like yours here…I’d hate to see its owner!!

Thank you for visiting and your kind words… Enya’s song fit the moment… 🙂 the spider is roughly 2 inches in diameter, just the right size if one is a horror movie fan…. 🙂

Oh, what a lovely, peaceful post down the path least travelled…so glad you leave the spider webs intact: if there are more spiders, there are more of all the other little beasties and they (the spiders) are just doing their job. Took me a long time to ‘get’ that…I sincerely appreciated getting to know a little bit more about you…have a lovely day…
